About Mrs. Kostich

Picture
In the classroom, my main goal is not only to reach students with artistic interest and help them grow and develop, but to reach all students no matter where their interests lie. I emphasize the connection that art has with everything else in the world. The Fibonacci sequence or the Golden Ratio, for example, connects art, math, science, and history. I also reference the Studio Habits of Mind and explain that all of these behaviors are interchangeable: they will be beneficial to students in any subject in school, in any career path they choose, and for any goal they choose to strive for.

Since I started teaching at Groton-Dunstable Regional High School in Groton, MA in 2012,  I have taught all Drawing, Painting, Mixed Media Junior/Senior Portfolio, and AP Studio Art classes.

I earned my BFA in Illustration with Dean’s Highest Honors in 2011 from Montserrat College of Art in Beverly, MA along with a Minor in Creative Writing and candidacy for Initial Licensure in Art Education. In the fall of 2011, I completed my Teaching Practicum in Ipswich, MA and became certified as a Visual Arts teacher in grades 5-12. I received my Master of Arts in Art Education from the New Hampshire Institute of Art and Design with a 4.0 GPA in 2016.

I live near Groton with my husband, Nick, our two chinchillas (Jiggly and Puff), and our husky/lab mix, Hidge.

Artwork

In addition to being an art teacher, I am also an artist and illustrator. I primarily work in children's book illustration, natural science illustration, and most recently, pet portraits!  To see my work, check out my website - www.studiofigs.com!
